OUR PHILOSOPHY
Pursuit Performance is a running coaching and performance support company, founded in 2022 by Gareth and Harvey Maguire.
Between us, we've worked in high-performance sport for over 20 years, including 7 years in elite athletics. We've experienced how much difference individualised training, open feedback and detailed performance support makes. We believe that level of coaching and support shouldn't be reserved for elite athletes.
Our coaching is built on scientific principles, adapted to each athlete to get the most from every session. We start with the demands of the event you’re targeting and focus on the physiological adaptations you need to meet them. We then profile and track those changes, so your training stays specific to you as you progress. And we stay curious: we follow how new research affects training, and apply it where it suits the athlete in front of us.
Too many runners are coached with generic plans built on arbitrary numbers and algorithms. This one-size-fits-all approach leaves runners underperforming and more likely to get injured. We started Pursuit Performance to change this.
VALUES
-
Curiosity. We ask why and how: of your results, your progress and the latest research.
-
Individual attention. Every programme starts with you, not a template.
-
Long-term approach. Consistency over quick fixes.

ABOUT GARETH:

Gareth is a British Athletics qualified coach (Level 2) and co-founder of Pursuit Performance. He is also Co-Head Coach of the Unsanctioned Athletics racing collective. His coaching combines endurance training with biomechanics: with an MSc in Clinical Biomechanics, he looks at how athletes move as well as how much they run, and changes technique only when it will make them faster or more resilient. A distance runner himself (5k 16:40, marathon 2:55), Gareth knows the demands of endurance training first-hand.
